Bike dead in the basement? How to get it out safely
Low ceilings, steep ramps and gate rules, and how we plan around them.
What to do right now
- 1
Check the kill switch and the fuel first. A tripped kill switch or a closed petcock causes more basement no-starts than people expect.
- 2
Do not leave the engine running in the basement. Exhaust gas collects in closed parking. If the bike does start, take it out to open air before you let it idle.
- 3
Note the lowest ceiling height. Look for the clearance sign at the entrance or on the ramp. A flatbed cannot enter a low basement, but a crew can often bring the bike up to the truck by hand.
- 4
Tell the security guard. Ask them to expect a tow truck and to open the gate. Many societies want a name or flat number at the gate.
- 5
Check whether the wheels turn. A locked handlebar or a stuck rear brake decides whether the bike can be rolled, and so how many people we send.
- 6
Keep the key and the registration papers ready. Some gates ask for the papers when a vehicle leaves the premises.
How we help

A bike that will not start on a basement level is awkward for two reasons. You cannot ride it out, and a tow truck cannot always drive in. Apartment basements across South Bangalore often have low ceilings, steep ramps and tight turns, and some societies restrict outside vehicles.
None of that stops a recovery, but it changes how we plan it. This page explains what to do while you wait, what to tell us so that we send the right crew, and what to sort out with your society before we arrive.
We start with a short call: the make of the bike, the basement level, whether there is a ramp or a lift, the ceiling height and the gate rules. If the truck can reach the ramp, we load there. If it cannot, the crew brings the bike to the nearest point where the truck can stop, and loads it from there.
If the bike will not roll, we say so on the call, because it changes how many people we send. Straps go on frame points rather than the handlebar or the plastics, and we avoid dragging a bike on locked wheels up a ramp.
From there we take it to your garage, to a service centre or to wherever you prefer. Most basement jobs in JP Nagar, Banashankari, HSR Layout or Koramangala are an ordinary tow once the bike is out. The wait depends on traffic and on where our truck is when you call.
Once the bike is out, our bike towing service takes it to the garage, and a scooter or EV goes with scooty and EV towing. Bringing a vehicle up from a basement or another difficult spot adds ₹200 to the tow, as shown on our towing price list. If the only problem is a flat battery or a puncture, ask about roadside assistance first.
What to tell us when you call
- Your apartment or society name, and the nearest main road
- The basement level, and whether there is a ramp or a lift
- The lowest ceiling height, if you know it
- Make and model, and whether the wheels turn
- Any gate rules: a name, a flat number or a permission
What not to do
- Do not keep cranking the starter. A flat battery gets flatter, and a flooded engine will not start however long you try.
- Do not push a heavy bike up a steep ramp alone. A bike rolling back down a ramp is a real injury risk. Wait for help.
- Do not let anyone pull it with a rope behind another bike. It damages the bike and it is unsafe on a ramp.
Frequently asked questions
Can a tow truck drive into my basement?
Usually not if the ceiling is low. We ask for the height, and if the truck cannot enter, the crew brings the bike to the nearest spot where it can be loaded.
Will my society allow an outside tow truck?
Most do, but the gate may want a name or a flat number. Tell security before we arrive, and ask the committee if there is a rule about vehicle entry.
What if the bike is on the third basement level?
Tell us the level. A lift or a ramp changes how we plan, and deeper levels can take longer, so we give you the time estimate after hearing the details.
Do you also tow scooters and electric scooters out of basements?
Yes. Electric scooters are loaded with the drive wheel supported. Mention whether the battery was recently charged or has been in water.
